ESP Band Spotlight: Emigrate (featuring Richard Z of Rammstein)
In 2005, Rammsteinʼs Richard Z took a much-needed year off from touring and recording after over a decade of nearly constant work. But as is the case of many musicians, itʼs difficult to just walk away from music entirely for an extended time period. During this hiatus from his internationally-acclaimed band, Richard put together a solo project heʼd been envisioning since 2001, hired Olsen Involtini (rhythm guitar), Arnaud Giroux (bass), and Henka Johansson (drums), and called it Emigrate. Donʼt refer to Emigrate as a side project; Richard is clear that this band is a new project that exists on its own outside of the work he continues to do with his more well-known band. While the comparisons to Rammstein are inevitable, Emigrate can be described as a tighter, more streamlined and straightforward, with a hard rock edge that some listeners may prefer to the grandiose sounds of Rammstein. At the end of January 2008, Emigrateʼs eponymous debut album was released in the USA, and has already received rave reviews for singles such as “My World”, “New York City”, “Babe”, and “Temptation”. Fans of the survival/horror movie genre will also hear “My World” on the soundtrack to the third Resident Evil movie, Resident Evil: Extinction. As you probably already know, Richard Z has been a player of ESP guitars for many years. He originally was using the Kirk Hammett signature models, but in 2006 worked with ESP to create his own signature series models, the ESP RZK-1 and the LTD RZK-600. Both guitars feature a neck-through-body design, a platinum finish with mirrored pickguard, a Floyd Rose tremolo, EMG pickups, and custom cross-shaped neck inlays. Keep your eyes and ears open for the Emigrate album, yet another highly-acclaimed recording from this amnazingly innovative guitarist!
